Crows 04:19
Crows - Words and Music: Jonathon Ferris 4/7/2009 V1. Stay in here darling ‘Cause it’s darker than dark I’m afraid I’ll never see you If you step off the porch Chorus: I here crows in the distance It’s too dark for the nightingale to sing (and the nightingale is too scared to sing) Stay in here with me Tonight Tonight Tonight V2. Well the crows are cawing To their murderous friends And the air is unsettling still Just when and where will they descend? Chorus: V3. Is this some kind of omen? Or am I reading this too much? Why are the scavengers here? What have they found to clutch? Chorus 2x
2.
Midnight Flight - Words and Music: Jonathon Ferris 4/4/2009 V1. Sometimes the scenic route Is a straight line Sometimes a happy song Is the blues… Turn down the lights, V2. ‘cause sometimes we see clearest When it’s pitch black And when you’re lonely You know someone has your back Chorus: How bad do you need it tonight? How much do you need it to turn out right? How far are you willing to go On this midnight flight? V3. You can know if you won or lost Without keeping score Just when you think you’ve had enough You find you can take more Chorus: V4. Sometimes it’s when you’re hurting You can feel the most peace And when everything goes right Is when you feel it least Chorus 2x

What a Year 02:59
What a Year Words by: Jonathon Ferris 12/29/2001 Music by: Jonathon Ferris 12/31/2001 V1 What a day, what a dear What a week, what a year This has been, come again You’re not sounding too clear I’ve been up, I’ve been down Been away above of the clouds What a year, can we stop here? I think there’s something to be found. Chorus: Three hundred sixty five days Some of them being spent in a haze Well the world keep spinning ‘round but I got my feet on the ground V2 Played best man, played guitar out on the streets, under the stars met new pals, chased new gals, never getting very far Got fed up, got chewed out, came to find a new route Took a trip, regained my grip, now I know what it’s about Chorus V3 I grew up, regained some youth Wrote this song in a booth Saw some shows, took some blows Standing up for the truth Got out of town, got over fears Had new songs ringing in my ears Saw new sights, gained new heights Just can’t wait for next year Chorus Tag 2x yeah I’ve got my feet on the ground

Georgia Wrong Turns - Words and Music: Jonathon Ferris 11/10/08 V1. You have a knack for sealing your own fate The things that you say you’ll avoid, you meet with no delay The devil you say is hiding, behind the garden gate But I thought I saw your left hand and the latch at play V2. You’re scared that everyone has a gun in there possession But you walk down dark alleys with no hesitation The killer you say is hiding just you see and wait But you’ll be the very one who leads the way V3. You want to ride one way, but you’re driven another So you try to back seat drive, and turn the kids against their father You say you want to show them history, and soon, that’s what they’ll be When the cat jumps out, the car is ditched and misfit is what you see V4. You have a knack for sealing your own fate The things that you say you’ll avoid, you meet with no delay The killer you say is waiting just around the next turn Your think you’re in Tennessee, but you’ve taken a Georgia wrong turn Outro ad lib

(Myself) Face to Face Words by: Jonathon Ferris 2/3/2008 Music by: Jonathon Ferris 2/4/2008 V1 Weaker than I ought to be But stronger than know Frozen right where I stand But so eager to go Chorus: Take me to someplace remote To a place where I can think Maybe then I’ll realize what all this is supposed to mean Can you spare me some time Can you spare me some place Where I can step outside of me, and see myself face to face V2 A million thoughts race through my head But I can’t pick a single one To come to grips with and Figure out what needs to be done Chorus V3 I feel like I’m spinning plates On some old variety show It’s just a matter of time before Some platter hits the floor Chorus

Repeat Cameo 04:48
Repeat Cameo - Words and Music by: Jonathon Ferris 10/09/08 V1: The first time we met I shared more Than I had ever shared with anyone like you before But I don’t hear from you no more And no desperate knocks come to my door Chorus: With the turn of page you were gone again Wonder when in the story you’ll reappear my old friend I know this ain’t the end It’s a repeat cameo my friend It’s a repeat cameo my friend V2: You were freewheeling and wild A God fearing Kerouac taking life mile by mile When your girl conceive a reason for you to smile You couldn’t stop being the wandering child Chorus: V3: We spent hours working on melodies and rhymes Using chords from days of yore, struggling to find But there never seemed to be enough time Now your far away but on my mind

Don't let the Devil Get you Down Words by: Jonathon Ferris 4/9/01 Music by: Jonathon Ferris 6/4/01 V1. Well your out there fighting the good fight But you hate it when the day turns into night No matter how you try it don't come out right But don't lose your grip honey hang on tight Chorus: 'Cause you are seeking the truth and it's there to be found But you have no where to go, so you just turn round and round but hold on tight and don't give any ground and don't let the devil get you down (optional repeat) V2. You look at all the miles that you logged and you see that you've done it in a fog but still you search on, you know soon the sun will break through the clouds of gloom Chorus: V3. looking at all the things you need to do and trying not to let it get to you some things you work through with pen and ink while asking for more time to think

You and Me 03:18
You and Me - Words & music by: Jonathon Ferris 7/21/2009 V1. Well it’s been raining over our house For so long but if we can start in the dark We can be strong, and move on You and me V2. Well we’ve been wearing ourselves thin Just to make heaven in the middle of sin And heartbreak, I think we can make (it) Your and me Chorus: Well we’re building in the storm Defying the norms, and they’ll see That they can’t stop what must be That there will always be, you and me You and me V3 They say this storm shall pass Into the mist or into the ether But after the twist, there will be this You and me

about

Jonathon Ferris's first full length album features 10 original songs. The way the songs have been arranged may make you feel like you’ve been sat up, knocked down, dusted off, and picked back up again. The set up kicks off with the foot tapping yet darker sounds of "Crows". The second track takes you through the convoluted logic of "Midnight Flight". "What a Year" is next, with a rundown of all that can happen in a year (and did), and looking forward to what is ahead. The fourth track is the Flannery O'Conner inspired "Georgia Wrongs Turns". Then the knock down starts with the moody “(myself) Face to Face”. “Repeat Cameo” then makes it appearance hoping that old friends will someday return. Dusting you off comes in the self effacing, tongue-in-cheek, “Tortured Poet”. Then the pick up: “Don’t Let the Devil Get You Down” come in as a kick in pants pep talk. This is followed by the learning to trust again song “Leaning Back.” The closer, “You and Me”, is a song of love in the midst of hard times.

Jonathon performs most of what is heard here. Everyone who has seen or heard him play so far knows he plays acoustic guitar and sings. On this CD we also hear him adeptly adding harmonies to the mix as well as playing electric guitar, mandolin and bass. On three tracks Sugarspell, an accomplished singer-songwriter in his own right, makes an appearance adding drums to the mix on three tracks.

about

Jonathon Ferris Detroit, Michigan

Americana-Folk put through a great lakes industrial complex filter: you would think Jonathon Ferris did his writing sitting in a coffee shop on the edge of Detroit, looking across the street at an old barn on the verge of collapse. Down to earth, but street smart, a small town boy who loves the big city, he can spot a Packard at 100 yards, and tell you what's growing in that farmers field. ... more
